The Gehry Harbour project is an important showcase for ProjectZero as ZERO+ energy ambitions go hand in hand with world class architect Frank O. Gehry and his masterplan making this a world class showcase with multiple dimensions.

ProjectZero and its energy consultants have also supported the Gehry Harbour Project to achieve its ZERO+ energy goals. The ambition will be achieved in combination of energy efficient construction and renewable energy supply from PV, green district heating and local wind turbines.

About Sonderborg´s Gehry Harbour Project
The harbor project was started on 10 November 2006 by Sønderborg Municipality and Bitten & Mads Clausens Foundation. The vision is to help the city´s harbour contribute to the vitality of Sonderborg, making it a high-quality and attractive city.
The ambition is to create a sustainable area which is unique in Denmark and Europe. An area characterized by outstanding architecture high-quality buildings and numerous activities. The aim is to make the area attractive to its residents, newcomers and visitors,

In 2007, Frank Gehry was recrouted as an architect, to prepare a masterplan for the transformation of the central Sonderborg harbour area – Sønderborg North Harbour – an area of over 50,000 square metres.
In 2007, the world-famous architect Frank Gehry was hired to design a masterplan to transform the old industrial waterfront of Sonderborg harbor into a vibrant area.

The masterplan was presented on October 31th, 2008. It is a three-dimensional model – a form study – which sets the overall architectural tone and outlines the vision and dimensions for the entire area. The masterplan encompasses buildings with a total floor space of approximately 50,000 square meters. Transformation of the harbour area started in 2011 and will proceed over a number of years involving developers and architects working on the specific buildings and outdoor areas.
